William N. Evans, MD FACC, FAAP
Dr. Evans obtained his MD from the University of California, Irvine. He then completed his internship, residency, and Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. As a long-standing member of the Las Vegas medical community, Dr. Evans has held positions at several area hospitals and served as a board member of numerous charities. He is the Founder and Past President of the Las Vegas Pediatric Society. In 1980, Dr. Evans established, and continues to serve as Director of, the Children's Heart Center, Nevada's largest pediatric cardiology practice. Dr. Evans is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Evans speaks Spanish.


Kathleen A. Cass, MD, PhD, FACC
Dr. Cass received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Iowa. She also earned her MD degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. She then completed her pediatric residency and Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Dr. Cass joined the Children's Heart Center in July 1983 and sees patients at three Southern Nevada offices in addition to all Las Vegas area hospitals. She has a special interest in computer applications in the practice of medicine. Dr. Cass is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Cass speaks Spanish.


Gary A. Mayman, MD, FACC
Dr. Mayman received his MD from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. Dr. Mayman then served as a Pediatric Cardiology Fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute and University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Mayman joined the Children's Heart Center in April 1991 after an eight year affiliation with Kaiser Sunset Hospital in Los Angeles where he worked as the Director of Pediatric Echocardiography. Dr. Mayman is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Mayman speaks Spanish.


Katrinka T. Kip, MD, FACC
Dr. Kip earned her MD from the State University of New York. She completed an internship and residency at Tulane University Hospital and a Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the University of Miami. Before joining the Children's Heart Center in April 1999, Dr. Kip held the positions of Acting Division Chief and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Dr. Kip's practice is based primarily in Reno but she sees patients in Las Vegas and performs outreach services in Carson City, Elko and Winnemucca. Dr. Kip is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.


Ruben J. Acherman, MD, FACC
Dr. Acherman, a native of Colombia, obtained his MD from the Universidad del Valle in Cali. He completed his Pediatric residency and a Neonatology fellowship at LA County USC Hospital. Dr. Acherman next completed a Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Before joining the Children's Heart Center in March 2002, Dr. Acherman spent eight years on the faculty of Children's Hospital Los Angeles where he served as the Director of Fetal Cardiology. Dr. Acherman is board-certified in Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Acherman speaks Spanish fluently.


Abraham Rothman, MD, FACC
Dr. Rothman obtained his MD from the University of California, San Diego. He completed residency at the University of California San Diego Medical Center. Dr. Rothman then served as a Pediatric Cardiology Fellow at the Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Rothman joined the Children's Heart Center in September 2003 after a fourteen-year affiliation with the University of California, San Diego where he was Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Rothman is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Rothman is a nationally acclaimed pediatric cardiac interventionalist and an extensively published basic science researcher. Dr. Rothman speaks Spanish fluently.


Carlos F. Luna, MD, FACC
Dr. Luna received his MD from the Universidad del Valle in Cali. He completed residency at LA County USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Luna then served as a Pediatric Cardiology Fellow at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Luna joined the Children's Heart Center in September 2003 after a three-year affiliation with the Keck School of Medicine at USC where he was the Director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at LA County USC Medical Center. Dr. Luna is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology and has a special interest in fetal and neonatal cardiology and transesophageal echocardiography. Dr. Luna speaks Spanish fluently.


Joseph M. Ludwick, M.D., FACC
Dr. Ludwick was awarded his MD from the St. Louis University Medical School. He completed his Pediatric Residency at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles where he received the Chief Resident's Award. He continued his training at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for his Pediatric Cardiology fellowship. He joined the Children's Heart Center and the UNSOM faculty in 2005. Dr. Ludwick's practice is based primarily in Reno but also sees patients in Las Vegas and performs outreach services in Carson City, Elko and Winnemucca.


Alvaro Galindo M.D., FACC
Dr. Galindo received his MD from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed residency at the New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Galindo then served as a Pediatric Cardiology Fellow at the University of California at Los Angeles. He received additional training in Interventional Cardiac Catheterization at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Galindo joined Children's Heart Center in August 2006 after serving as Associate Professor at the University of Miami. He completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship at UCLA and was a post-graduate fellow in interventional cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital. He patented the Double Balloon Pediatric Ductus Arteriosis Stent Catheter. Dr. Galindo speaks Spanish fluently.


Robert C. Rollins, M.D., FACC
Dr. Rollins is a native Las Vegan who graduated with honors from the Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his Pediatric Residency in Las Vegas at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Rollins completed his fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. Upon completing his fellowship in August 2006, he moved to Las Vegas to join the Children's Heart Center. Dr. Rollins has an interest in fetal cardiology as well as transesophageal echocardiography.


William J. Castillo, M.D., FACC
Dr. Castillo received his MD from the Universidad Del Valle School of Medicine. He completed residency at LA County USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. He continued his training at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for his Pediatric Cardiology fellowship. Dr. Castillo joined the Children's Heart Center in October 2007 after a five-year affiliation with the West Virginia University where he was Assistant Professor of Department of Pediatrics and the Medical Director of Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory. Dr. Castillo is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology and has a special interest in fetal echocardiology. Dr. Castillo speaks Spanish fluently.


Ian H. Law M.D.
Dr. Law received his MD from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Law then served as a Pediatric Cardiology Fellow at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He received additional training in Electrophysiology at University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Law is currently the Director of Pediatric Electrophysiology Laboratory and the Director of the Pediatric Electrophysiology Program at Children's Hospital of Iowa, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. He visits Las Vegas on a regular basis to assist in the treatment of our patients.


Vincent C. Thomas M.D.
Dr. Vincent C. Thomas received his MD from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He completed his Residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital in Orange, California and completed Fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Electrophysiology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a founding member of the Fellowship Society at Sibley Heart Center in Atlanta, Georgia & a member of the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Thomas has research interests in Kawasaki's disease and the management of Long QT Syndrome. Dr. Thomas joined Children's Heart Center in July 2010.


Renna K. Lange, R.N.
Renna obtained her Associates Degree in science/nursing from Riverside Community College California. After graduation from the Nursing program she continued her work at Loma Linda Medical Center, specializing in the neonatal intensive care area. She then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she worked for Sunrise Children's Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care area. During which time she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and graduated with honors. In 2001, she joined Children's Heart Center as the Clinical Coordinator. She assists the physicians, coordinates surgeries, cardiac catheterizations and special procedures, providing educational information to patients, parents, and healthcare workers. She provides prenatal tours, as well as arranging out of state transfers and transportation.


Sammie Yamagata, R.N.
Sammie obtained her Associates Degree in Science/Nursing from Belmont College, in St. Clairesville, Ohio. After graduation from the Nursing program she began her career training as a Neonatal Intensive Care RN at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada where she worked for 13 years. In addition, she served as a Parent Educator for 6 years prior to becoming the Clinical Nursing Educator for the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Staff. In July of 2003, she joined Children's Heart Center as a Clinical Coordinating RN. She assists the physicians, coordinates surgeries, cardiac catheterizations and special procedures, as well as providing educational information to patients, parents, and healthcare workers. She provides prenatal tours as well as arranging out of state transfers and transportation.


Tammy Roper, R.N., B.S.N.
Tammy is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. After Graduating from UNLV's Nursing Program, she began her Nursing career here in Las Vegas as well, at the Sunrise Children's Hospital. Tammy worked as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care area. During her time in the PICU, Tammy specialized in the post op care of Open Heart Surgery patients. Tammy joined Children's Heart Center of Nevada in 2006 as the Clinical Nurse Manager. She manages the operations of the Clinical Nursing Department and the CHC Lab. This includes supervision of the Treadmill Stress Test, In Office Sedations, Prescription Refills, Cardiac Catheterization Conference, Prenatals, Procedure Scheduling, and Lab Draws. Tammy also assists the physicians and staff and provides educational information to patients, parents, and healthcare workers.


Mia Rios
Mia obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. After graduation from the Nursing program, Mia worked as an Obstetrical/Gynecological Nurse at Sunrise Hospital for 12 years. During this time she earned several awards including Southern Nevada OB Nurse of the Year, HCA First Humanitarian Award, and a Customer Excellence award. After her tenure as an Ob/Gyn nurse, she went on to serve in the capacity of Clinical Applications Analyst at Sunrise Hospital for 6 years. In 2007, she joined Children's Heart Center as the Perinatal Nurse Manager. Mia has actively participated in the development of CHC's current perinatal cardiology program from the ground up. She has worked with her team of coordinators to develop relationships with local perinatologists and their staff in order to coordinate the highest level of prenatal and postnatal care for mothers who are referred to our physicians for fetal echocardiography & cardiac evaluation. This program continues to grow and is currently one of the busiest fetal cardiology programs in the nation.
